For all you job seekers, I do understand that things look bleak in terms of job opportunities, however based on my experience in the employment sector, this will pick up at the start of the new financial year, as businesses start to look at their workforce needs.
What do you do in the meantime? Well there are plenty of opportunities in what we call the hidden job market. Currently most job seekers will continue to look for ads on SEEK or through recruitment companies, but that is more difficult as competition is fierce at the moment and you have a lower likelihood of success.
My suggestion is to find the job before it is advertised! Yes I know this may seem bizarre, but smart employers are using more innovative ways to find people with the right skills, knowledge and experience, and doing it for free!
How? Well they are going straight to LinkedIn and finding suitable talent without bothering to advertise- as LinkedIn is the fastest growing employment database, and will continue to expand rapidly. Employers now have access to numerous candidates at their fingertips, making selection processes easier and providing more choice in terms of quality staff.
So what do you do to ensure that you are noticed by employers? Obviously you need to join LinkedIn and develop a marketable profile that sells you well. Hopefully you have been reading our latest blogs and monthly newsletter, as that provides tips to guide you.
